  • Philip Chapman was recently featured on "America's Premier Lawyers" show, broadcast on Continental Airlines throughout the month of April, 2008. He spoke on the subject of non-competition agreements with employees

  • On March 13, 2008, Wayne J. Positan was the Moderator for the 2008 Labor & Employment Law Forum, which took place at the Pines Manor in Edison, NJ, from 9:00 AM - 2:00pm. This conference agenda included a comprehensive Employment Law update, an NLRB update as well as other topics of interest to labor and employment law practitioners. The program was sponsored by the NJICLE in cooperation with the NJSBA Labor and Employment Law Section.

  • The Atlanta Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and Arnall Golden Gregory LLP hosted a luncheon event on April 2, 2008;
    Reflections on the ABA American Jury Project: Advancing Innovative Approaches to Jury Trials in Federal Court
    featuring speaker Dennis J. Drasco, former Chair of the ABA Section of Litigation, Co-Chair of the American Jury Project, Current Chair of the ABA Commission on The American Jury, and 2008 President of the New Jersey Federal Bar Association.

  • As President of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Wayne J. Positan spoke at the Association of the Federal Bar Officers and Executive Committee Luncheon on January 25, 2007 in Newark; State Bar Night in Warren County on January 23, 2007;  State Bar Night in Monmouth County on March 8, 2007, and the Milburn Old Guard on March 22, 2007.  A video clip is also currently available on the NJSBA website (http://www.njsba.com/ ) as to involvement in the NJSBA.  On March 28, Positan was a discussion leader at the Disaster Planning Task Force Summit meeting with leaders from federal, state and local government, and bar associations from the Northeast corridor.  John Farmer, former Counsel to the 9/11 Commission is the featured speaker.  On March 29, he spoke and was a participant in the Bench Bar Conference on Media and Law which is being led by Chief Justice Zazzali.   Both events were at the New Jersey Bar Center.  On April 16, Positan spoke to the Hudson County Bar Association at the Casino in the Park in Jersey City for State Bar Night.   On April 18 and 19, Positan  lead the New Jersey Delegation at ABA Day in Washington to visit the New Jersey congressional delegation.   On April 26, he will speak at the 30th Anniversary Dinner of the Community Health Law Project in New Brunswick, and on May 8, at  the New Jersey Prosecutors Association meeting with Association President Theodore Romankow, Prosecutor of Union County
  • Firm members Wayne J. Positan and Christina Silva were panelists on the 2006 Labor Law Forum of the NJ Institute for Continuing Legal Education on March 15, 2007 at the New Jersey Law Center.  Positan has been in charge of the Annual Labor Law Forum since 1994 and was the Moderator.  Silva participated in the program “Unfair Competition and Non-Competition Agreements” which included Judge Ronald E. Bookbinder, Presiding Judge, Chancer Division, New Jersey Superior Court, Burlington County.  The Labor Law Forum also included as panelists Justice Helen E. Hoens of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division Judge Paulette Sapp-Peterson; Kevin Jarvis, Chief of Staff of the New Jersey Department of Labor; and Michael Lightner, Regional Attorney of the National Labor Relations Board. 
  • On March 24, 2007,  Jane S. Kelsey was  be a speaker and panelist at a Seminar entitled " More Powerful Openings and Closings", to be held at The Ramada, in East Hanover from 9:00am until 12:30pm.  The Seminar was sponsored by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
  • On Feb. 23, 2007, Dennis J. Drasco moderated a program  entitled, ETHICS AND - WHERE THERE'S SMOKE, THERE'S FIRE! This was part of the Third Annual ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Program entitled GOLIATH v. GOLIATH: ORGANIZING THE CONSTRUCTION CASE FOR MEDIATION, in New York City.
  • Dennis J. Drasco moderated a program at the NJSBA Mid Year meeting on November 6, 2006  entitled Hot Topics in  Federal Practice in New Jersey which included Electronic discovery, attorney client privilege, arbitration and mediation in Federal Court and presentation for trial among other topics
  • Dennis J. Drasco was the moderator of a Symposium on the American Jury at SMU Law School in Dallas on 10/26/06 and 10/27/06 as Chair of the American Bar Association Commission On The American Jury Project.
     
  • Dennis J. Drasco was installed as the Chair of the ABA Commission on the American Jury at the  2006 ABA Annual Meeting. His committee will  be presenting a symposium on jury innovations in October 2006,in Dallas, Texas

  • Wayne J. Positan has been part of the NJ ICLE faculty teaching the ongoing Ethics and Professionalism For In-House Counsel course mandated by the New Jersey Supreme Court for in-house counsel applying for limited licensure under the revised New Jersey Rules of Professional Conduct pertaining to the multijurisdictional practice of law. 

  • Wayne J. Positan was the organizer/moderator of the NJICLE Annual Labor Law Forum at the NJ Bar Center on Thursday, March 16, which included presentations by Acting Labor Commissioner David Socolow, and NLRB Regional Attorney Michael Lightner, and programs on Ethical Considerations in Employment Law and Appellate Practice.  Justice James Zazzali and Appellate Division Judge Helen E. Hoens participated on the Appellate Practice panel.  He is also participating as a lecturer on the subject of the Multijurisdictional Practice of Law as part of the Ethics & Professionalism program required by the New Jersey Supreme Court for the limited licensure of in-house counsel in New Jersey consistent with the Rules of Professional Conduct.  The inaugural class of that required program took place at the New Jersey Law Center on March 22, 2005 for the first 100 in-house counsel who applied under the new rule promulgated by the Supreme Court of New Jersey.

  • On Saturday, May 13, 2006,  Cynthia A. Matheke was a panelist and speaker at a seminar entitled Masters in Trial- A Trial Demonstration in a Personal Injury/Premises Liability Case, from Opening Statement to Jury Deliberations. The Seminar was held at The Hyatt Regency, in New Brunswick , New Jersey from 8:15am to 5:00pm. It is being sponsored by the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
  • Cynthia A. Matheke was a speaker and featured panelist at a seminar entitled,  Catastrophic Damage Awards: Perspectives of the Plaintiff, Defense & Expert , on Tuesday July 25, 2006 , from 9 :00 AM to 1:00 PM at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick, NJ. The Seminar was sponsored by the the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education
  • Lisa A. Firko was a featured speaker at a seminar entitled: "A Practical Approach to Premises Liability" at the Pines Manor in Edison, NJ on Saturday February 25th, 2006. She spoke on "Developing a Premise Case - Investigation, Novel Theories, Ordinary Theories, and Possible Defendants". The seminar was sponsored by The Association of Trial Lawyers of America-New Jersey Educational Foundation.
  • Richard A. West, Jr., Esq ., was a speaker at a seminar entitled "Hot Tips in Labor and Employment Law," presented by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the Labor and Employment Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, held on December 9, 2005, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Hilton Gardens Inn in Edison.
  • Philip L. Chapman, Esq., and Richard A. West, Jr., Esq ., were speakers at a seminar entitled "Non-Compete Agreements for Commercial Lawyers," presented by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the Business Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, held December 6, 2005, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick.
  • On January 26, 2006, Kevin  F. Murphy was a speaker and panelist at a seminar entitled, Tax Exempt Organizations in New Jersey. The seminar was held at The Ramada Inn, on Rt. 18 South, in East Brunswick, NJ, from 8:30 am to 4:30pm. It was sponsored by Lorman Education Services
  • The ABA Section of Litigation has released a new DVD/CD/Video Program "Ethical Issues: 40 Solutions for Litigators" which includes presentations by firm members Dennis J. Drasco on Ethical issues in Mediation and Wayne J. Positan on potential conflicts of interest in the representation of co-defendants.

  • Paul A. Sandars III was a speaker at the ABA Litigation Section, Alternative Dispute Resolution and Construction Litigation Committees CLE Seminar, November 10,2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at a program entitled, "Where's the Logic: Presenting Delay Claims".
  • Wayne J. Positan, Esq., Richard A. West, Esq. and Christina Silva Lee, Esq . were speakers at a free  seminar on How to Avoid HR Landmines,  on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 , from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, on Albany Street in New Brunswick, NJ.   • Dennis J. Drasco was the moderator of a seminar on Principles of  Cross Examination in Federal Court , on Wednesday, November 16, 2005, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, at Mayfair Farms, in West Orange, NJ.

  • Dennis J. Drasco spoke on a program at the 2005 ABA annual Meeting in Chicago on August 4 entitled PRACTICAL INNOVATIONS IN JURY TRIALS.

  • Kevin F. Murphy was a speaker on Current Developments Affecting Trade Associations at a seminar entitled Tax-Exempt Organizations In New Jersey, held on September 15, 2005 at the Parsippany Holiday Inn & Suites in Parsippany, New Jersey.  The seminar was sponsored by Lorman Educational Services.

  • On Friday evening May 13,2005, Dennis J. Drasco  was the Keynote Speaker at the New York State Bar Association, Commercial and Federal Litigation Section and Corporate Counsel Section Annual Spring Meeting, in Saratoga Springs, New York . The topic was the ABA 's work in developing the Principles and Standards for Juries and Jury Service.

  • Philip L. Chapman was a moderator and featured speaker at a seminar entitled Selling and Buying A Business in New York: Fundamentals and Beyond,  on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at the Crowne Plaza, 66 Hale Avenue, White Plains, N.Y.  from 8- 4:30pm. The seminar was sponsored by Lorman Educational Services.

  • Wayne J. Positan  spoke on the program “The MJP Maze: Avoiding the Unauthorized Practice of Law” on April 21, 2005 at the ABA Section of Litigation Annual Conference at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.  Positan was the Chair of the ABA Commission on Multijurisdictional Practice whose report and recommendations led to the amendment to the Model Rules of Professional Conduct in 2002.

  • Wayne J. Positan was the organizer and moderator of the 2005 Labor Law Forum/Bench Bar Conference for the New Jersey Institute for Legal Education on March 16, 2005, which included programs on jury trials in employment litigation and a keynote presentation by New Jersey Commissioner of Labor Thomas Carver.  In March, he also made a presentation to the Annual ATLA/ECBA Conference regarding the ABA and NJSBA legislative agenda.

  • Paul A. Sandars III , was a featured speaker at the following venues: On April 7, 2005 at the ABA Forum on Construction Annual meeting speaking about Another Pocket? Theories of Lender Liability Arising Out of the Construction Financing Process. On April 14, 2005 at the ABA Dispute Resolution Section Annual Meeting  speaking on Construction ADR: State of the Industry. On April 22, 2005 at the ABA Litigation Section Annual Meeting speaking on Avoiding the Hidden Dangers of Arbitration , and on July 14, 2005 he spoke on Change Orders in New Jersey at Lorman Education Services.

  • On Friday April 8,  Dennis J. Drasco   was a speaker on a panel of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute at their Section of Litigation Annual Retreat. The topic is THE 21st CENTURY JURY IN PENNSYLVANIA 

  • On April 2, 2005, Jane S. Kelsey was a panelist and speaker at a seminar  entitled,  New Jersey Attorneys on New Jersey Cross Examination, held at the New Jersey Law Center , in New Brunswick, N.J. The seminar was sponsored by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
  • Dennis J. Drasco was a speaker on a panel entitiled, Back to the Future; Rediscovering the virtues of actually trying major product cases! on January 21st 2005. The program was at the ABA Section of Litigation Environmental Products Liability & Mass Torts Litigation Committees Joint CLE Seminar in Beaver Creek, Colorado. The panel consisted of In house Counsel and trial attorneys.

  • Lisa A. Firko was a panelist at a seminar entitled Handling the Dental Case , on Saturday March 19th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Wellesley Inn, Fairfield N.J. The seminar is sponsored by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education.

  • Cynthia A. Matheke was a speaker and panelist at a seminar entitled Litigating a Wrongful Death Case: Update 2005, on Saturday February 12, 2005 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Wellesley Inn, Fairfield N.J. The program is sponsored by the Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
